7 signs your dad is secretly a superhero

Superheroes usually have a cape, a secret identity and a cool emblem on their chest. Dads usually have a fleece jacket, reading glasses pushed up on their forehead and a roll of duct tape in their pocket. But don’t let that fool you. Here are seven sure signs that your dad is secretly a superhero.

1. He can find the remote.
Nobody else can. Dad looks at the sofa for two seconds, lifts one cushion and hands you the remote without a word. X-ray vision, clearly.

2. Duct tape fixes everything.
A broken toy, a loose mirror, a leaky hose. To Dad, nothing is ever broken – it just needs more tape.

3. He knows the way without a sat nav.
“Let’s turn here, it’s a shortcut.” Half an hour later you’ve arrived and seen three beautiful lakes along the way. Turning a short drive into a scenic tour is also a superpower.

4. He falls asleep in three seconds – and apparently watched the whole film.
Eyes closed, gentle snoring, but try changing the channel: “I’m watching that!” Dad can evidently see through his eyelids too.

5. His jokes never wear out.
You’ve heard the same joke 47 times, and he laughs at it just as hard every time. That kind of endurance is something no superhero film has managed yet.

6. The barbecue lights even in the rain.
The rain is coming in sideways, but the sausages are sizzling. Dad stands under an umbrella, tongs in hand, like a captain in a storm.

7. He’s always there when you need him.
House moves, lifts, late-night phone calls, and worries big and small. That’s the superpower that really matters.
